I had been doing wearable art, clothing, textiles and custom dyeing for a number of years through my business, K Designs. Then I discovered horseback riding and found that the textile business was becoming more of a job and less of a creative outlet. The doors of the textile business eventually closed. However, I was still interested in, and in fact desired, some type of a creative outlet; but wasn't sure what medium to try. Realizing that I desired a new creative outlet, I took my first watercolor class. I quickly found out that this was what I was looking for. I had thought that watercolor might be reminiscent of dyeing fabric and that it would translate. I found out that wasn't really the case. Once again: practice, practice, practice. I have found that I am having a really good time exploring the medium. It's an exploration of the inward for me, and expression of the outward. The observation of landscapes, animals, flowers, and most of all color. I love the play of the paper, the water, and color. This requires thought, imagination and perseverance. Most of all, it's the process not the product.
