 Mercedes Lopez , after a productive career in medicine, is now a full time artist. In addition to scientific degrees from the University of Puerto Rico and George Washington University she has studied drawing and painting at the Capitol Hill Art Center in Washington DC.

As a painter, she has participated in workshops but is primarily self-taught. She has shown her work in numerous solo and group shows through out Virginia and her work is in many private and corporate collections in the US and Europe. In June 2002 one of her paintings was chosen as the featured work by the Museo de la Acuarela in Mexico.

She works primarily in watercolor, her landscapes display the relationship of shadow and light, inviting the viewer to enter, explore, and enjoy.

Born in Puerto Rico and a long time resident of Washington DC, she now lives in Charlottesville, VA. Her work is represented by Bozart Gallery and Art Upstairs Gallery in Charlottesville.
