Katherine Maus

Katharine Maus was born in Rochester, NY and grew up outside of Lowell, MA. She was educated at Cornell and Johns Hopkins Universities and taught at Princeton University for some years. She came to Charlottesville in 1988 to work in UVA’s English Department as a scholar and teacher of Renaissance drama.

From childhood, she loved to draw, and from young adulthood, she avidly visited museums in the US and Europe. But busy with a career and childrearing, she
never had an opportunity to get formal art training. Then, isolated and with some time on her hands during the pandemic, she signed up for an online atelier-style
painting class which finally gave her some technical skills. Although she’s in her sixties, she’s a young artist, still experimenting and developing her style.
